Palatines to America Meeting Notice 05/05/07
The New York State Chapter of Palatines to America will hold its spring meeting May 5, 2007 in Rome, NY. The site will be at the Rome Historical Society library and museum. Rome Historical Society, 200 Church St., Rome, NY is next to the Fort Stanwix National Monument. This day-long event begins at 8:30 a.m.
Palatines to America is a non profit genealogical society made up of descendants of German- speaking people who immigrated to America. The meeting is open to the public.
The morning's speakers will be Allan Foote and Susan Seleway of the Northern Frontier Project. The Northern Frontier Project is dedicated to the protection, preservation, and promotion of our treasured historic sites in upstate New York. Allan Foote is co-author of “Gateway to Freedom, the American Revolution on the Northern Frontier” and “Valley of Liberty: A Guide to the Upper Mohawk Valley in the American Revolution”. Susan Seleway is president of the Northern Frontier Project.
Rome Historical Society will provide us with an overview of their archival material. They offer an ongoing diorama and the following exhibits: Iroquois peoples, Forts on the Carry, Early Life in Rome. We will also tour their museum.
Lunch will be included in the $25 fee for the days' events.
In the afternoon, we will tour Fort Stanwix National Monument.

Other tours: Handouts will be available for an "on your own drive" to Oriskany Battlefield Monument. The rangers will not be available for a tour but people can stop and see the monument.
From east, take NYS Thruway to exit 31 to I 790 to Rte 49 W. toward downtown Rome. Turn R at N James St. Turn R at Park (Catholic church on comer). Turn L onto Church St.
